Beyond "It Boots": Why Every CleanSpec Lab Workstation Undergoes OCCT Bronze System Stability Testing

When shopping for a refurbished computer online, you'll often see phrases like tested, working, or fully functional. Those descriptions are important—but what do they actually mean?

For some sellers, testing may consist of confirming that the computer powers on, Windows loads successfully, and the major hardware components are detected.

At CleanSpec Lab, we believe a professional workstation deserves a more thorough evaluation before it reaches a customer.

A computer can boot Windows perfectly while still hiding thermal problems, processor instability, marginal memory, graphics issues, or power-related faults that only appear after the system has been under sustained load.

That's why eligible CleanSpec Lab workstations undergo the OCCT Bronze System Stability Certificate as part of our internal quality assurance process before they are listed for sale.

Why Stress Testing Matters

Modern computers spend much of their lives doing very little.

Opening a web browser, checking email, or editing documents places relatively light demands on the hardware.

Professional workstations, however, are often purchased specifically because they're expected to do more.

Engineering software.

CAD design.

Photo and video editing.

Software development.

Scientific computing.

Virtual machines.

Data analysis.

These workloads can push a processor, memory subsystem, graphics hardware, and cooling system far beyond what everyday desktop use ever will.

A system that appears perfectly healthy while sitting idle may begin to exhibit problems only after thirty minutes of sustained processing.

Our goal is to discover those problems before you do.

Why We Chose OCCT

There are many hardware diagnostics and benchmarking utilities available today.

After evaluating our options, we chose OCCT, developed by OCBase, as the foundation for our stability validation.

OCCT has earned a strong reputation among PC enthusiasts, reviewers, system builders, overclockers, and professional technicians for its comprehensive stress-testing capabilities and detailed hardware monitoring.

Rather than attempting to develop our own stress-testing methodology, we chose to incorporate a mature, well-established platform into our quality assurance process.

Using standardized testing allows us to evaluate systems consistently while benefiting from years of development by a team whose sole focus is hardware stability testing.

What Does the OCCT Bronze System Stability Certificate Test?

Eligible CleanSpec Lab workstations complete approximately 90 minutes of continuous testing using the OCCT Bronze System Stability Certificate.

The Bronze profile consists of four individual workloads:

  • CPU Large

  • CPU Small

  • Memory

  • 3D Adaptive

Together, these tests exercise the processor, memory subsystem, graphics hardware, motherboard, cooling solution, and power delivery under sustained operating conditions.

Unlike a quick benchmark that finishes in a few minutes, these workloads are designed to keep the system under load long enough for temperature-related issues and hardware instability to reveal themselves.

A system that successfully completes this certification has demonstrated stable operation throughout the entire testing profile.

What We've Learned

One of the most valuable aspects of stress testing is that it occasionally uncovers problems that other diagnostics do not.

During development of our certification process, we encountered systems that:

  • Passed manufacturer diagnostics

  • Installed Windows without issue

  • Appeared completely functional

...yet failed extended stability testing because of thermal issues or processor instability.

OCCT identified instability that was not apparent in any way during machine software loading and set up. Without OCCT Bronze Certification Testing, this hidden processor instability may never have been discovered before the workstation reached a customer.

Those machines were removed from inventory for repair rather than being offered for sale.

The purpose of testing is not to prove that every computer is perfect.

The purpose is to identify problems while the computer is still on our workbench instead of on yours.

Stress Testing Is Only One Part of Our Process

Successfully completing the OCCT Bronze System Stability Certificate is only one component of our internal certification process.

Each workstation also undergoes additional inspections that may include:

  • Complete cleaning and dust removal

  • Hardware configuration verification

  • Windows 11 Professional installation and activation

  • Driver installation and validation

  • SSD health verification

  • Functional inspection of ports and installed hardware

  • Final quality inspection prior to shipment

Storage devices receive special attention because stress testing alone cannot accurately evaluate SSD wear or long-term health. Every storage device installed in a CleanSpec Lab workstation is independently evaluated using dedicated drive health software before it is approved for sale.

What This Certification Does — And Does Not — Mean

No hardware test can guarantee that an electronic component will never fail.

Electronics can develop faults without warning regardless of age, manufacturer, or previous testing.

For that reason, we believe it's important to be transparent about what certification represents.

Successfully completing the OCCT Bronze System Stability Certificate means that, at the time the system was evaluated, it demonstrated stable operation while completing a standardized series of demanding workloads.

It does not represent a lifetime guarantee or a promise that future failures are impossible.

Instead, it demonstrates that the system has been subjected to significantly more validation than simply confirming that it powers on.

Our Philosophy

Anyone can list a computer that boots.

We believe customers deserve more confidence than that.

Every workstation represents our reputation, and every certification reflects the time we've invested in evaluating that hardware before it reaches a customer.

If a machine develops a problem during testing, we'd rather discover it ourselves than have our customer discover it after delivery.

That philosophy guides everything we do—from our engineering documentation and technical validation projects to our inspection procedures and workstation certification process.

Because confidence isn't built by claiming a computer works.

It's built by doing everything reasonable to verify that it does.
